Anthropic's new Claude Frontier Academy commits $100 million to train 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers by the end of 2027 — a 4-day intensive plus a 12-week residency that says the scarcest input in enterprise AI is no longer the model, it is the person who ships it.
Every frontier lab has spent three years competing on benchmarks. This week, one of them put $100 million on a different scoreboard: people.
On 2 October 2026, Anthropic launched Claude Frontier Academy, a $100 million programme with an explicit target — 10,000 trained "Frontier Deployed Engineers" by the end of 2027. Not 10,000 model users, not 10,000 certified salespeople: engineers who can take an AI system from an idea through security review into production inside a real business, and then teach others to do the same.
The money has a named target and a deadline. Anthropic describes the Academy as the first programme of its kind from an AI company, backed by a $100 million commitment aimed at 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers (FDEs) by the end of 2027 ¹. The money funds the first programme, the Frontier Deployed Engineer Residency, and the programme page states that further programmes will be announced through 2027.
It is built like a medical residency, not a course. Candidates start with a four-day intensive: three days in person building a Claude system for a simulated enterprise — from the first customer request through security review to handover — and a fourth day graded on a new scenario. Passing earns the first badge, Claude Resident Engineer. Then comes a 12-week residency in which each engineer leads a real Claude deployment at their own organisation, with cohort mentorship and support from Anthropic engineers, finishing with another assessment for the Claude Frontier Deployed Engineer badge. Anthropic expects to award the first of those in early 2027 ².
Access is nomination-only, and the first rooms are already full. Participation runs through an organisation's Anthropic account team or partner manager, with cohorts currently running in San Francisco, New York and London ¹. The inaugural cohorts include engineers from Accenture, Bain, Capgemini, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Deloitte, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley and Novo Nordisk ¹.
The diagnosis behind it is a talent shortage, stated plainly. Anthropic's own framing is that "the people with the skills to make it work inside a real business have become the hardest talent to find" ¹. Steve Corfield, Anthropic's global head of business development and partnerships, put it as a leadership problem rather than a training problem: "A small team of high-agency people with the right skills, access to Claude, and a deep understanding of how their business runs can transform an entire company" ¹. CNBC, reporting the same announcement, quoted Anthropic's head of strategy and operations for partnerships saying customers keep telling the company they need more people who can combine enterprise and business context with high-level AI fluency ⁴.
It is an extension of an existing certification machine. The Academy builds on the Claude Partner Network, where professionals across 46,000 firms have earned more than 175,000 Claude certifications and nearly 4,000 people have completed Basecamp, an immersive programme teaching the same curriculum Anthropic's applied AI teams receive onboarding ¹. Anthropic had already added three role-based certifications in July 2026 — associate, developer and professional-architect tracks examined through supervised, identity-verified tests — at which point more than 36,000 consultants across over 1,300 organisations were certified and more than 400,000 people had completed its free partner training ³.
We build AI-assisted workflows — document pipelines, support automation, internal assistants — for organisations that will never be nominated for a residency in San Francisco. So we run the same discipline at a scale you can afford: pick the one engineer who will own it, scope one deployment that touches a real process, get it through your security and compliance checks, ship it, measure it, and let the second one be built by the first.
You do not need 10,000 engineers. You need one with a mandate, a working system behind them, and someone who has done it before standing next to them. That is the engagement we sell.
Contact us and we will map your first deployment — use case, owner, security path and the number it has to move — in a single working session.
